Ted's Diary Mark with Ivory at the Devon Show
written by Amen Ra (Ted) The Alpaca of Distinction

Ted's Diary - Rain or Dry!June 2007 Hi Folks, it’s your old mate Ted – still the Alpaca of Distinction!  We have all been down here on Dartmoor for ten weeks –yes really! ten weeks and hasn’t life changed!

It has been a very exciting time for all of us!  Barnaby, Ivory and Charm have all been to a Show – without ME.  They enjoyed themselves meeting new people and being admired, - no prizes but lots of encouragement and nice comments from the judge.  Now if they had taken me then who knows? I must have a word with Mark.  I am really ready for this show business – I have the looks, the personality and that special quality – loveabiltiy  (EVERYONE loves me!)

The one thing that has not changed is the weather, we had a few nice weeks, but lately it has rained and rained, and we have no shelters! Lots of grass and hay (DRY hay, mark my words) Ha! Mark, well, yes! Mark actually made these dinky little covers for the hay racks that hang on our fences – they actually work- DRY HAY! But we still have no shelters.

Uncle Ian, from Dreamfield Alpacas, came and helped the lads with the fencing but he did not make us any SHELTERS – all his alpacas have shelters! I have suggested that we are moved into the barn – boy, is the barn BIG – but my fellow Alpacas don’t think that would be such a good idea, so yours truly is out here in the rain and the mud! Even the Geese have shelters – yes, you read that right – GEESE!The new babies playing "Tag"

Have you noticed my new paddock mates? When I first arrived I was lodging with crowd of wethers- all white – I did stand out! But I got rather bored as they were not the brightest of creatures, one or two were friendly but some of the bigger ones picked on me – can you believe it! I think they were jealous of my lovely markings and outstanding personality.  Anyway after a few tiffs, Mike and Mark decided to let me take on my job as role model to the young boys – Augustus, King and my little pal Chris.

Stud Alex is away working - HARD!Thankfully they are all white, as well – I still stand out!  The good thing about this promotion is that I can see Charm and watch the new babies – they are so cute, and Gosh! can they RUN!

Have I told you about Alex? Well he is away at the moment doing what stud males do!  He is staying at Laurel Farm in Tytherleigh with my good friend Geraldine.  I hear he has been enjoying his work and will be returning to us down here very soon – tell you more about that when I have seen The Lad himself and got all the inside information!

To finish on a rather sad note, Cleo, my mum, been sold, but Betsy has gone with her to keep her company and she will be with the light of my life – Sexy Legs, who, I have been told,  has just had a lovely baby girl.

More next month, love to you all,
